Artist's Comments

It's getting colder now, and taking the baby outside without anything on his feet isn't a terribly bright idea. However, he detests socks, and the baby shoes on the market are *dreadful* for developing feet. I used a pattern that's been ingrained in my head since I was 12, when I made my first pair of moccasins. The shoes here aren't nearly as well-done as anything my mom or my sister might've done, but they fit him well enough.

I used brain-tanned deerhide, hand-tanned by my mother, and bugle beads that I've had stashed in my cubby for ages. As dictated by tradition, they are imperfectly beaded.

So cute!

Incidentally, it'll never stop weirding me out thinking about the fact that deer hide is tanned with brain go, usually made from said deer's brain. Ew.

Bwahaha. Seriously, it's the *best* way to have it done. Lye's too harsh, and so are most other methods. (Of which, I can't recall. Ha.)
